It is estimated that some 30,000 street coffee vendors ply their trade in Colombia’s cities. About 80% of them use Imusa thermos jugs manufactured in Copacabana.
To give a helping hand to these tinteros who often have a hard time making ends meet, Groupe SEB Colombia has undertaken a number of initiatives: a dental care scheme, donation of school supplies, training, organizing cooperatives etc.
The Colombian teams have come up with a tailor-made thermos to keep the coffee hot as long as possible as well as a special cart to carry it around and a folding chair. In this way, the Copacabana site has been able to help as many as 2,000 tinteros and their families.
This initiative was the winner in the social/societal category of Groupe SEB’s 2012 internal sustainable development awards.
